EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES - This program was developed for family physicians and may be appropriate for other primary care physicians and health care professionals. Participants will receive current information on a diversity of medical subjects pertinent to patient care in daily practice. At the conclusion of the program, registrants will have a working and applicable understanding of these topics and will be provided materials for future reference. The meeting syllabus will provide specific objectives for each presentation.
REGISTRATION/COSTS - The full registration fee includes the continuing medical education sessions, a CD syllabus, refreshment breaks, and continental breakfasts, Ice Cream Reception, and the Membership Luncheon.
Tickets for the Coding & Joint Exams/Injection Workshops, and the Carolina Beach Party at the Litchfield Country Club are optional and must be purchased in advance.
Refunds will be made, less a $45.00 administrative fee, upon written request to the SCAFP office, if received by May 21, 2012. Following that date no refunds will be given.
SAMs WORKING GROUP INFORMATION -The SAM consists of two parts: knowledge assessment and clinical simulation. The SAM program will focus on the knowledge assessment portion of the module and allow learners to complete the clinical simulation online after the conference on an individual basis. The SAMs is offered in conjunction with the SCAFP Summer Break Away & Annual Assembly, however you do not need to register for the SCAFP Annual Assembly in order to participate (see Registration Form). Advance registration is required.** You MUST pre-register with the ABFM BEFORE the SCAFP SAMs Working Group Session. Call the ABFM at 888-995-5700 to get your user name and password if this is your first time, or simply go online at www.theabfm.org. (At least 10 registrants are required or session may be cancelled or rescheduled)
LOCATION/RESERVATIONS - The Summer Break Away & Annual Assembly will be held at the Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort in Pawley Island, SC. The Resort resides on over 4,500 acres and is surrounded by three championship golf courses carved through the marshes and the rivers of the Waccamaw Trail. The Resort offers a variety of accommodations, a fully-equipped Health, Fitness & Racquetball Center, clay tennis courts, bicycle rentals, a Pool Playground Plaza and more. You’ll be only a short distance from live theaters, art galleries, boutique shopping, sculpture gardens and nature preserves.
The Academy’s block of room will be reserved until May 19, 2012. After that date, rooms are on a space available basis. Make your reservation at the Resort by calling 1-800-845-1897.
IRS STATEMENT - Registration fees paid to the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. Generally, registration fees can be deducted by physicians as an ordinary and necessary business expense. Charitable contributions made to the Family Health Foundation of South Carolina are tax deductible.
ACCREDITATION - Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians and determination of credit is pending. This program is in the process of being reviewed for up to 24+ Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the AMA as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 credit.
ADA COMPLIANCE - The SCAFP will comply with the American with Disabilities Act in order to offer this program to all interested parties regardless of any special needs they may have. If you require special accommodation in order to fully participate, please check the appropriate block on your registration form. A staff member will contact you to discuss your specific needs.
MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON - Members are encouraged to attend the Membership Luncheon on Wednesday, June 13th. Installation of the the 2012-2013 new Board members and Officers, including incoming President, Ada Stewart, MD, will take place at the Luncheon. The Academy will also recognize and honor the SC Family Physician of the Year, the Student Educator of the Year, present the Halford Award, and present Fellows degree.
FAMILY OUTING: A CAROLINA BEACH PARTY AT THE LITCHFIELD COUNTRY CLUB - Wear your favorite luau outfit & join us for a Carolina Luau Party at the Litchfield Country Club. This fun event will feature fabulous luau food such as Kalua Pua’a (roast pork), chicken and fish; a limbo contest; and a DJ. Enjoy an evening of fun, fellowship and great food! AREA ATTRACTIONS - Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort is conveniently located within minutes of Brookgreen Gardens, Huntington Beach State Park, Murrells Inlet, Surfside Beach and historic Georgetown, SC. Brookgreen Gardens is a showplace of art and nature with over 550 pieces of America’s finest 19th and 20th century sculptures, 2,000 species of plants and native animals and birds. Huntington Beach State Park, located a mile from the Resort, is a picturesque oceanfront park filled with natural beauty. Hiking trails, a nature center for children, a marsh walk, and the historic “Atalaya Castle” are a part of the Park. Murrells Inlet, the seafood capitol, offers an array of restaurants, Charter boat fishing, shrimping & crabbing, and the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk. Capt. Dick’s Marina (www.captdicks.com) offers all types of water activities – deep sea and inshore fishing trips, parasailing, jet skis and saltwater marsh Explorer cruises. Nearby Surfside Beach offers shops, restaurants, Wild Water Fun Park, Legends Theater and more. Historic Georgetown, SC, the third oldest city in SC, offers a glimpse of the by-gone rice culture with its Rice Museum, historic homes and waterfront shops filled with friendly merchants, skilled artisans and craftsman. Well-known shops, boutiques, and village-style shops, including the famous Pawleys Island Hammock Shops, are nearby. An array of shopping malls and factory outlet stores abound- The Market Commons, Coastal Grand Mall and many Designer Outlets & Boutiques are within driving distance. The Resort's Sea Oats Gift Shop offers golf and beach apparel, fine wines and many unique treasures. North of the Resort, Myrtle Beach offers an abundance of dining, shopping and entertainment. There is something for everyone in the area!
