The 2007 SCAFP Board of Directors
The South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians is the state's largest primary care medical specialty society. Family physicians are unique because they are trained and qualified to treat up to 90 percent of all conditions and care for all family members: men, women, the elderly, and children of all ages.
SCAFP Executive Officers 2007/08
President
Neal L. Shealy, MD
Dr. Shealy is a native South Carolinian from Leesville, SC. He is a graduate of Newberry College and the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his Family Medicine residency in Greenville, SC.
After being in private practice for eight years in Crossnore, NC, he moved to Varnville, SC as medical director of the Harrison L. Peeples Health Care Center (rural health clinic and community based teaching site) where he has been for the past 16 years. Dr. Shealy is married to Sharon Shealy (Family Nurse Practitioner) and their son Phillip is currently serving in the Peace Corps-Tanzania and son Luke is a senior at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana.

H. Griffin Cupstid, MD
Dr. Cupstid was born in Columbia, SC. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1983, and completed a residency in family medicine at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in 1986, serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Cupstid has practiced in Cowpens, SC since 1988. His practice is affiliated with Mary Black Health System, and he currently serves on its Board of Trustees and as a representative to the Triad National Physician Leadership Group. Dr. Cupstid and his wife Betty reside in Spartanburg. They have three children.

Walter Conner, MD
Walter E. Connor, MD is a native of South Carolina and was born and raised in Sumter , SC. He attented the University of South Carolina for undergraduate and graduated from the 4th Class out of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1984. After completing residency at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Gadsden Alabama, Dr. Connor entered private practice in Orangeburg, SC. Practacing for 10 1/2 years. He then joined the faculty at McLeod Regional Family Medcine Residency Program in Florence, SC in January of 1998.
Dr. Connor has taught at McLeod for 10 years and serves as the Associate Director for Technology and Patient Care Services. Dr. Connor has special interests in procedural medicine and spends much of his time teaching Family Medcine Residents to do upper and lower endoscopic procedures at McLeod.
He is married to Derinda A. Connor, RN and has 2 children Ryan Connor who is a senior at the University of South Carolina and a daughter Amanda Connor who is a freshman in the nursing program at Florence-Darlington Technical College.

Fran Mixon McCarley, MD
Dr. McCarley was born and raised in Orangeburg, SC. She is a graduate of the College of Charleston and the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Dr. McCarley currently practices at Boiling Springs Family Medicine. She and her son Josh live in Chesnee, SC where they enjoy working at St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic and going to Honduras on medical missions trips with her fiancé.

W. Hugh Morgan, MD
Dr. Morgan was born in Augusta, Georgia but grew up in SC. He graduated from Strom Thurmond High School, the University of South Carolina and the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his residency training at the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, SC. He is married to Maryedith Butler Morgan from Darlington, SC and they have two children, Katherine Elizabeth Morgan, age 19 and Walter Hugh Morgan, age 17.
Dr. Morgan has been in Private Practice of Family Medicine in Edgefield County since 1980. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine for the Medical University of South Carolina and the Medical College of Georgia.
